Welcome to Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, located in the heart of Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood.
Here you will find a diverse parish filled with people from all walks of life — single, married, children, partnered, gay, straight, families, young, and not-so-young.
Come in and you'll find rich worship rooted in ancient liturgy, real community with people who will become your friends, and relevant ways to help you grow in Christ and serve the people of the world.
Wherever you are on your spiritual journey — doubting, full-of-faith, or in between, there's a place at God's table set for you here.
Christians have been observing the 40 days called Lent for centuries. These days, leading up to Holy Week and Easter, are meant to help us more fully prepare to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ and live into its meaning for our lives.
The Lenten journey continues on The Second Sunday of Lent, March 1. See the Lent 2015 page on this site for a message from Fr. Steve and the Lenten Schedule.
What can help ground us in God's way of peace, honor, love, and joy? In the weeks leading up to Easter, we will explore the spiritual practices of prayer, reflection, worship, and life commitments that can tangibly impact our spiritual growth both personally and corporately. The essential purpose of this study is to come together to discover greater intimacy and freedom in our relationship with God. Topics of discussion include prayer, common worship, fasting, self-examination, and hospitality. These topics are especially timely as we approach the season of Lent!
Our guide for this study is Soul Feast: An Invitation to the Christian Spiritual Life, written by Marjorie J. Thompson. This book is clear, concise, and extremely practical. We'll focus on a chapter each week, and although participants are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible, each session is stand-alone, so you can jump in at any time. Copies of the book will be available for $16.00. (You can also purchase the book electronically. Several scholarships are available to purchase the book. See Fr. Steve if a scholarship is needed.) The series, led by St. Peter's clergy, began February 1, 9:30AM, and meets in in the Guild Room.
This week's discussion is led by Fr. Steve, and will be guided by Chapter 6: "The Practice of Self-Emptying: Rediscovering the Fast."
